The 7 best vape tanks we sell

We ranked these tanks by units sold in the last six months, among tanks in stock today. Prices come from our product pages on this guide’s date, and each card also links the coils we stock for that tank.

Five Geekvape Zeus vape tanks in silver, rainbow, black, red and gold

1 Geekvape Zeus Sub Ohm Tank

26mm 5ml Top airflow $24.99

Of the tanks in stock, the Zeus is our best-selling vape tank. It fills from the top and holds 5ml in its bubble glass, while a 3.5ml spare glass comes in the box. Air comes in at the top and then flows down to the coil, a layout Geekvape uses to keep e-liquid from leaking out of the airflow. The Z0.2Ω coil comes installed, rated 70W to 80W, and a Z0.4Ω (50W to 60W) is in the box too. Shop the Zeus.

Best for: a 26mm top-airflow tank at a low price.

Good to know: Geekvape now sells it as the Z Sub-ohm Tank, so coil packs that list that tank fit it. We also stock Geekvape Z coils in packs of 5.

Five SMOK TFV18 vape tanks in gold, red, plating matte black, 7-color and blue, with resin drip tips

2 SMOK TFV18 Sub-Ohm Tank

31.6mm 7.5ml 80–140W $30.99

The TFV18 holds the most e-liquid of these vape tanks: 7.5ml with its 0.33Ω meshed coil, or 6.5ml with the 0.15Ω dual meshed coil. Both coils are rated 80W to 140W, best at 100W to 110W. To fill it, press the button and turn the top cap, which SMOK designed so it can’t open by accident. Meanwhile, air comes up through three adjustable slots at the base. Shop the TFV18.

Best for: cloud chasers with a 510 mod that reaches at least 80W.

Good to know: SMOK lists its TFV16 mesh, dual mesh and triple mesh coils for it too. We stock TFV18 coils.

Uwell Valyrian 3 in silver, iridescent, black, gunmetal and blue

3 Uwell Valyrian 3 Sub-Ohm Tank

30mm 6ml 80–90W $21.99

The Valyrian 3 is the lowest-priced vape tank here, and it still holds 6ml. When you press the button on the top cap, it flips open for filling. Then two adjustable slots at the base set the draw. It comes with a 0.32Ω UN2 single mesh coil fitted (80W to 85W) and a 0.14Ω dual mesh spare (80W to 90W). Shop the Valyrian 3.

Best for: big clouds from a 6ml tank on a budget.

Good to know: Its coils start at 80W, so pair it with a 510 mod that reaches that. Uwell says Valyrian II coils and V-Coils fit too, and we stock Valyrian 3 coils.

Geekvape Zeus Max in gold, black, rainbow, gunmetal and blue

4 Geekvape Zeus Max Sub Ohm Tank

32mm 4ml M coils $25.99

The Zeus Max is Geekvape’s larger, high-wattage vape tank: 32mm at its widest, on a 26mm base. It holds 4ml (a 2ml spare glass is in the box), fills from the top and has top airflow. It takes Geekvape M coils, from the M0.3Ω Dual (55W to 65W) up to the M0.15Ω Quadra (85W to 100W). The M0.14Ω comes installed, and an M0.2Ω Triple is also in the box. Shop the Zeus Max.

Best for: DTL vapers who run 60W to 100W.

Good to know: It takes M coils only, so Z coils from the Zeus won’t fit. We stock Geekvape M coils.

Geekvape Z Subohm Tank 5 in rainbow, silver, black, gunmetal and gold

5 Geekvape Z Subohm Tank 5

29mm 5.5ml Top airflow $34.99

The Z Subohm Tank 5 fills under a cap that slides open and stays attached, so you can’t lose it. It holds 5.5ml, or 7ml with Geekvape’s 7ml glass, and it also has adjustable top airflow. The Z0.2Ω XM coil (Boost Version) comes installed, rated 70W to 80W, with a Z0.4Ω XM (50W to 60W) in the box. Shop the Z Subohm Tank 5.

Best for: filling without taking the cap off.

Good to know: Geekvape says not to overfill it, so leave a little space when you fill. It also takes the same Z coils as the Zeus.

FreeMax Fireluke 4 in blue, silver, black and steel finishes

6 FreeMax Fireluke 4 Sub-Ohm Tank

28mm 5ml Screw-in coils $30.99

The Fireluke 4 has a child-resistant top cap: lift it, then slide it open from the red mark to fill. FreeMax also says the cap is ISO 8317 certified and that every part comes apart for cleaning. In addition, it holds 5ml and takes three FreeMax coil series: X, TX and 904L X. An X1-D Mesh 0.15Ω coil comes fitted, with a 904L X2 0.2Ω spare (40W to 80W, best 70W). Shop the Fireluke 4.

Best for: a vape tank with a child-resistant cap and plenty of coil choices.

Good to know: It’s 28mm wide, so it overhangs narrower mods. We also stock 904L X coils for it.

Voopoo UFORCE-X Tank II in silver, gunmetal and black

7 Voopoo UFORCE-X Tank II

29mm 5ml PnP X coils $33.99

The UFORCE-X Tank II takes every Voopoo PnP X coil, from 0.15Ω for DTL to 1.0Ω for mouth-to-lung (MTL). So one vape tank covers every draw. Besides, it holds 5ml, fills from the top and has adjustable top airflow. A 0.15Ω coil (60W to 80W) and a 0.2Ω (40W to 60W) come in the box. Shop the UFORCE-X Tank II.

Best for: trying different draws with one tank.

Good to know: It also comes in the Voopoo DRAG 6 220W Starter Kit. We stock PnP X coils in all seven resistances, too.

We also stock the Geekvape Z Fli 2 and Z Nano 3, the SMOK TFV9, T-Air and TF-D Subtank, the Uwell Valyrian IV and the Voopoo UFORCE-X Tank.

Vape tank specs compared

Here’s how the seven tanks compare on size, e-liquid, coil wattage and price.

Zeus26mm5ml50–80W$24.99
TFV1831.6mm7.5ml80–140W$30.99
Valyrian 330mm6ml80–90W$21.99
Zeus Max32mm4ml60–85W$25.99

Fireluke 428mm5ml40–80W$30.99
UFORCE-X II29mm5ml40–80W$33.99

Widths are at the widest point, so the Zeus Max still sits on a 26mm base. Also, the TFV18 holds 7.5ml with its 0.33Ω coil, while the Z Subohm Tank 5 holds 7ml with Geekvape’s 7ml glass.

How to pick a vape tank

Five things matter most: your mod, the coils, the airflow, the cap and the e-liquid.

  • Width: check the top of your mod first. A tank wider than the mod overhangs it, like the 28mm Fireluke 4 on a narrower mod.
  • Wattage: your mod has to reach the coil’s rating. For example, the TFV18 and Valyrian 3 coils start at 80W, while the Zeus’s 0.4Ω coil runs at 50W to 60W.
  • Airflow: the Zeus, the Zeus Max, the Z Subohm Tank 5 and the UFORCE-X Tank II pull air in at the top. Geekvape designed its tanks this way so that e-liquid doesn’t leak out of the airflow. In contrast, the TFV18, Valyrian 3 and Fireluke 4 take air in at the base.
  • Cap: all seven fill from the top. However, the Z Subohm Tank 5’s cap stays attached, the Valyrian 3’s cap flips open, and the TFV18 and Fireluke 4 have childproof caps.
  • E-liquid: our sub-ohm guide recommends 70/30 or higher VG freebase e-liquid in 3mg or 6mg. Nic salts, on the other hand, are made for low-wattage pod kits.

Need a mod too? Then look at our box mod kits.

Coils and wattage for each vape tank

Each vape tank comes with two coils, so the table above shows the makers’ ratings for both together. When you fit a new coil, first let it soak for a few minutes. Then start at the low end of its rating and work up.

However, FreeMax gives no rating for the X1-D coil that comes fitted in the Fireluke 4, so its range in the table is the spare 904L X2 coil’s. Also, coils from the same brand don’t always swap: the Zeus Max takes M coils, while the Zeus and Z Subohm Tank 5 take Z coils. Our coil guides for Geekvape, SMOK and Voopoo PnP show what fits where.

Best vape tanks FAQ

What is the best vape tank?

By our sales, it’s the Geekvape Zeus Sub Ohm Tank: a 26mm, 5ml top-airflow tank for $24.99. The best one for you, though, depends on your mod’s width and wattage.

Which vape tank holds the most e-liquid?

The SMOK TFV18 holds 7.5ml with its 0.33Ω coil. The Geekvape Z Subohm Tank 5 comes close at 7ml, but only with Geekvape’s 7ml glass.

Will a sub-ohm tank fit my mod?

Check two things. First, the width: a tank wider than your mod’s top overhangs it. Second, the wattage: your mod has to reach the coil’s rating, such as 80W for the TFV18 coils. Also, the TFV18, Valyrian 3, Fireluke 4 and UFORCE-X Tank II use a 510 connection.

What wattage do vape tanks need?

It depends on the coil. Among the coils in these boxes, ratings run from 40W for the UFORCE-X Tank II’s 0.2Ω coil up to 140W for the TFV18’s coils. So start at the low end of your coil’s rating and work up.

What’s the difference between top and bottom airflow?

Top-airflow tanks, like the Zeus and the Z Subohm Tank 5, pull air in at the top and down to the coil, a design Geekvape uses to keep e-liquid from leaking out. Bottom-airflow tanks, like the TFV18 and the Valyrian 3, take air in through slots at the base instead.

Which e-liquid works best in a vape tank?

Our sub-ohm vaping guide recommends 70/30 or higher VG freebase e-liquid in 3mg or 6mg. Nic salts come in 20mg to 50mg, so they’re made for low-wattage pod kits instead.
