What Makes a Tank Sub Ohm?
Its coils are under 1.0 ohm, and most sit between 0.1 and 0.5 ohm. Lower resistance lets more power through the coil, so it makes more vapor than a mouth-to-lung (MTL) coil. Our guide to sub-ohm vaping covers the basics, and our best vape tanks guide ranks the tanks we sell the most.
Coils That Fit
Each tank takes one coil family. The Geekvape Zeus takes Z coils, and the VOOPOO UFORCE-X takes PnP X coils. The SMOK TF-D takes D-COIL mesh coils. Shop replacement coils that match your tank.
Tank Size
Most tanks here hold 5ml or more, up to 8.5ml in the Uwell Valyrian IV. A bigger tank means fewer refills, though it also makes your setup taller.
Airflow and Filling
Some tanks take in air at the top, like the Geekvape Zeus and SMOK T-Air. Others take it in at the bottom, like the SMOK TFV18. Most fill from the top.
Which E-Liquid?
Sub-ohm tanks suit high-VG freebase vape juice in 3mg or 6mg. Strong nic salts are harsh at this power. Our PG and VG guide explains why.
Brands and Replacement Tanks

It’s not a good fit. Strong nic salts are harsh at sub-ohm power. Use freebase e-liquid in 3mg or 6mg instead.

Most tanks here use a 510 thread, which fits most box mods. Also check that your mod reaches the wattage your coil needs.
What is the difference between a sub ohm tank and an MTL tank?
Sub-ohm coils have low resistance and wide airflow for a loose DTL draw. MTL tanks use higher-resistance coils and a tighter draw that you take into your mouth first.
Which coils fit my tank?
Use the coil family your tank’s maker lists, like Z coils for the Geekvape Zeus or PnP X coils for the VOOPOO UFORCE-X. Coils from other families won’t fit.
