Meet the two pod kits
Next, here’s a closer look at each refillable pod kit, with who it suits best.
Vaporesso XROS 6
The XROS 6 is part of the XROS line by Vaporesso, so it takes every XROS pod we sell. Its 1800mAh battery charges fast over USB-C. Also, its 0.88-inch screen shows your battery, power mode, puff count and wattage. The kit comes with two XROS mesh pods, 0.6 and 0.8 ohm. Shop the XROS 6.
Best for: anyone who wants the most battery for the money.
Good to know: The XROS 6 tops out at 30W, so it has a little less power than the Caliburn G5.
Uwell Caliburn G5
The Caliburn G5 is a 35W pod kit by Uwell, with a matte aluminum body and a digital screen. Its 1600mAh battery also charges fast over USB-C. In the box, you get three GPP pods: 0.4 and 0.6 ohm, plus a 0.6 ohm ALPHA. Uwell designed the ALPHA pod to last longer. Shop the Caliburn G5.
Best for: vapers who want a bit more power and three pods to try.
Good to know: The Caliburn G5 costs $8 more than the XROS 6, and its battery is 200mAh smaller.
Battery, power and airflow
First, the battery. The XROS 6 has an 1800mAh battery, while the Caliburn G5 has a 1600mAh one. That means the XROS 6 holds about 12% more charge. Of course, how long each one lasts depends on your pod and how much you vape. Both kits also charge fast over USB-C.
Whichever kit you pick, follow the FDA’s tips to help avoid vape battery fires. For example, charge your vape on a clean, flat surface, away from anything that can catch fire. Also, don’t charge it overnight.
Next, power. The Caliburn G5 goes up to 35W, and the XROS 6 goes up to 30W. That extra power matters most with a low-resistance pod, such as a 0.4 ohm, since those run at higher watts.
Finally, airflow. Both kits let you open or close the airflow. A tight setting gives a mouth-to-lung (MTL) draw, while an open one gives a looser, restricted direct lung (RDL) draw. The XROS 6 uses a slider, while the G5 uses a stepless control on its side.
XROS pods vs GPP pods
The pods matter most over time, because you’ll keep buying them. XROS pods won’t fit the Caliburn G5, and GPP pods won’t fit the XROS 6. So before you choose a kit, check that you like its pods.
XROS pods cost $13.99 for a 4-pack, or about $3.50 a pod. We stock them in six resistances: 0.4, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 ohm, in 2mL or 3mL sizes. They also fit every Vaporesso XROS kit. In fact, 890+ customers have bought our XROS 4-packs, and about 1 in 3 came back for more.
GPP pods, on the other hand, cost $10.99 for a 3-pack, or about $3.66 a pod. They come in 0.4, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 ohm, and each one holds 3mL. Also, the same GPP 3-packs fit the Caliburn G5 Lite.
Which resistance should you pick? In general, a lower resistance, like 0.4 ohm, makes more vapor and suits freebase e-liquid. Meanwhile, a higher one, like 0.9 or 1.2 ohm, gives a tighter draw and suits nic salts. For instance, our GPP pod page pairs the 0.4 ohm pod with freebase and the 0.9 ohm pod with salts. To learn more, see our freebase vs salt nicotine guide and our guide to PG and VG.
Which one should you buy?
Here’s our XROS 6 vs Caliburn G5 verdict. Get the XROS 6 if you want the lower price, the bigger battery and the most pod choices. It’s also the one our customers pick more often. On the other hand, get the Caliburn G5 if you want a bit more power and three pods in the box.
Either way, both make a good first refillable pod kit, since they’re easy to fill and work with salts or freebase. Want to spend less? Then look at the XROS 6 Mini, which takes the same XROS pods, or the Caliburn G5 Lite, which takes GPP pods. You can also browse every pod kit we carry.
