Our Aegis Hero 5 review in short: GeekVape’s newest Hero is a rugged pod kit with a 2000mAh battery built in and up to 50W. Its 6.5mL Hero cartridge fills from the top and runs B series coils. As a result, the same kit can give you a tight MTL draw or a looser DTL one.

It also runs on coils our customers already trust. In fact, 360+ customers have bought GeekVape B coils from us, and nearly 1 in 4 came back for more.

GeekVape Aegis Hero 5
The Aegis Hero 5 by GeekVape is a rugged pod kit with a zinc alloy body, a faux leather grip and shock-resistant construction. Right now, we have it in 13 colors. It also has a display for your settings and a fire button. Shop the Aegis Hero 5.
Best for: vapers who want a rugged pod kit for MTL or DTL vaping, with fewer refills.
Good to know: It tops out at 50W, so the 0.2 ohm coil only runs at the bottom of its range.
Which B series coil should you use?
First, the coil decides how the GeekVape Aegis Hero 5 vapes. So here are the watt ratings from our product pages, from the most vapor to the tightest draw:
| Coil | Watts |
|---|---|
| 0.2 ohm (in the box) | 50W to 58W |
| 0.3 ohm | 30W to 38W |
| 0.4 ohm (in the box) | 25W to 35W |
| 0.6 ohm | 15W to 25W |
| 1.2 ohm | 10W to 14W |
In general, the low-ohm coils make more vapor and suit freebase e-liquid with a looser DTL draw. On the other hand, the 1.2 ohm coil gives a tight MTL draw, which suits nic salts. In addition, our freebase vs salt nicotine guide explains the difference.
Here’s one catch we found in this Aegis Hero 5 review. The 0.2 ohm coil in the box is rated for 50W to 58W, but the kit tops out at 50W. So it works, but only at the bottom of its range. If you’d rather stay inside a coil’s full range, though, the 0.3 ohm coil fits the Hero 5 with room to spare.
Also, our coil 5-packs cost $14.99, and right now we have them in 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.6 and 1.2 ohm.
Spare Hero cartridges
The Hero cartridge holds 6.5mL, so you refill less often than with a 2mL or 3mL pod. Also, it fills from the top and has a 510 drip tip. In addition, it fits the Aegis Hero 2 (H45) and the Hero 2 Classic, as well as the Hero 5.
Our spare pods cost $7.99 each, although the coil is sold separately. Right now, we have the white one in stock, while the black one is sold out.
Battery, charging and the A-Lock
The GeekVape Aegis Hero 5 has a 2000mAh battery built in, and it charges over USB-C at 5V/2A. Meanwhile, the display shows your wattage, battery level and coil resistance.
Then there’s the A-Lock, a safety switch. When it’s on, the fire button won’t fire, so the kit can’t go off in a pocket or bag. Also, whenever you charge it, follow the FDA’s tips to help avoid vape battery fires. For example, charge it on a clean, flat surface, away from anything that can catch fire. Also, don’t use a phone or tablet charger, and don’t charge it overnight.
Aegis Hero 5 review: who should buy it?
Our Aegis Hero 5 review verdict is simple. Get it if you want a rugged pod kit that holds a lot of juice and lets you pick your draw. Besides, the B coils are easy to find, and the A-Lock keeps it from firing in your pocket. However, if you want more power or a bigger battery, look at a pod mod or box mod instead.
Still deciding? For example, our DRAG S3 review covers a 60W pod mod with a 3000mAh battery. Also, our DRAG 6 review covers a 220W kit for big clouds. You can also browse every pod kit we carry.
